Guardians of the Galaxy 3 arrived in theaters in May, and the movie reminded MCU fans just why they love these characters so much. The film was a major success, and it was even the second-highest grossing MCU movie of 2023. But many fans will want to rewatch the movie on Disney Plus, and they’re wondering when it will be released to the streaming service.
In the past, MCU movies would often hit the Disney Plus service just a few weeks after their theatrical release. But over the last year or so, Marvel Studios has started to lengthen that window a little bit. Most recent MCU films have been able to make their way to Disney Plus about 80 days after they’ve premiered in theaters. That’s actually about a week longer than most MCU releases had previously taken to reach Disney Plus.
So, when can fans expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to land on Disney Plus? The third and final installment in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is set to hit Disney Plus on August 2, and it will also be available in digital format on July 7, followed by a DVD/Blu-Ray/4K release on August 8.
The film picks up with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) rallying the gang for a mission to save Rocket’s life. The team is joined by Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary and Will Poulter as Adam Warlock. The film is written and directed by James Gunn, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt and Sara Smith serving as executive producers.
It will be interesting to see how much longer this release window is for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, given that Disney’s recently announced plans to move away from a release model that relies on theaters for its films and to focus more on streaming and home video. The company wants to bring more of its content to Disney+, and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy will be a big part of that.
If the Guardians of the Galaxy films don’t do well on the platform, then it will probably take longer for them to arrive on other platforms.
